Canadian Citizenship
- Canada Immigration
As the final step in your Canadian
immigration process, the actual application for Canadian citizenship
marks the mile-stone of final integration into the Canadian way
of life.
Canadians are particularly
proud of their country and you will be hard pressed to find a more
patriotic nation. At Soft Landings we have seen many immigrants
through the entire process from application for permanent residence
to final induction as a Canadian citizen.
How to Qualify
for Canadian citizenship:
You can apply for citizenship
if you:
- are at least 18 years old
- have been a legal permanent
resident of Canada for three out of the previous four years
- can communicate in English
or French
- have knowledge of Canada
and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship
The actual process takes between
eight months and one year from application to final citizenship
ceremony. The application fee is $200 for persons aged 18 and over
and $100 for children (non-refundable). Your application will be
sent to Sydney, Nova Scotia for processing.
Your application must include
your record of landing or Canadian Permanent Resident Card ("Maple
Leaf Card"), two pieces of identification and two signed photographs.
A form for each child must also be submitted.
You will be sent a study guide,"
A Look at Canada", after the Sydney centre receives your application.
Once the citizenship judge in your area decides that you meet the
qualifications for Canadian citizenship, you will receive a letter
informing you to go for a test. Children under 18 don't have to
write the test.
